  • Honey Bee Swarms | Village of Angola

If you see a honey bee swarm or colony in your neighborhood, visit beeswarmed.org to report it at no cost. Your report will connect you with local beekeepers who can provide safe bee removal and humane honey bee relocation. About Swarmed & Citizens of the Hive Swarmed and Citizens of the Hive are sister projects working to support local bees and beekeepers. We maintain a honey bee public alert system to report bee colonies to local beekeepers. Why are swarms so crucial? Pollinator losses are at record highs, with over 60% of U.S. hives lost this year. Swarms are critical to bee population recovery, but many go unrescued because beekeepers are hard to reach. By getting more swarms into beekeepers' hives, we double the likelihood that the bees will survive and help beekeepers save time and money. For the public, Swarmed provides an appropriate referral path for inquiries about bees, wasps, and bumblebee swarms/nests, which can cause alarm when they appear. Swarmed Swarmed is a free public reporting tool for honey bee swarms. When someone sees a swarm, they can submit a report online. Swarmed alerts local beekeepers, and in most cases, the public can expect to get a response within 20 minutes to arrange safe removal. Over 10,000 beekeepers across the US are available to handle swarms. If no beekeepers are available nearby, the system lets the user know and gives alternative resources. We only share data with the beekeeper who claims the swarm, and only for the purpose of coordinating swarm removal. Reporting is free, though beekeepers may charge a fee for hard-to-access or well-established colonies. Organizations can share Swarmed as a trusted resource to reduce unnecessary extermination calls, protect pollinators, and help the public take action quickly and safely. Swarmed is a satellite partner of the California Master Beekeeper Program at the University of California, Davis. Report a swarm Citizens of the Hive Citizens of the Hive is the research and education arm of the project. It uses anonymized swarm data to support pollinator science, public education, and habitat planning. We’ve collected over 4 million unique data points on honey bee swarms and helped rehome more than 500 million bees. This data is shared openly with researchers, educators, and local governments. It helps answer questions like: Organizations that share Swarmed also contribute to a growing public dataset on bee health and behavior. Learn more

  • History | Village of Angola

Acerca de History The Village of Angola is one quaint square mile of friendship, community and historic treasures. Located inside the Town of Evans just 30 miles south of Buffalo, New York with beautiful Lake Erie Beaches smoldering with the most beautiful sunsets, and many parks and business’s to satisfy all walks of life. Angola is a walkable community with new sidewalks; benches; flower pots; memorial trees; lamp-posts and more. Great daytime or evening walk. “ANGOLA”…everyone asks where did the “name” come from? Here is a small bit of history straight from the Deputy Mayor William G Houston: Many years ago when the trains came through this area, it was called Evans Station. The people applied to the Federal Government to put a post office in this area. The Quakers had started a Colony this side of Gowanda in the Collins area and were known to help many in need. The same Quakers also helped people of Angola, Africa. In 1855, when the Angola Post Office located in Taylor Hollow (used by the Quakers) closed, the Federal Government offered it to this area and said “here is your post office” and authorities thought it best to move the post office to this area…hence the name “Angola." Angola became incorporated in 1873 and continues to grow and prosper. Current population is approximately 2266. -Joan Houston, Village Historian

  • Garbage & Recycling | Village of Angola

Garbage & Recycling Modern Corporation 800-330-7107 www.moderncorporation.com 2026 Calendar Pick up is every Wednesday for Trash. Recycling Pick Up is Biweekly. Bulk Pick Up is Wednesday of the last full week of the month. Bulk Pick Up Dates January 28 February 25 March 25 April 22 May 27 June 24 July 22 August 26 September 23 October 28 November 25 December 23 Frequently Asked Questions When to put your carts out? Please place your waste and recycling at the curb by 6:00a.m. on your collection day. If your materials are not out when the crew arrives, pickup will not be available until your next collection day. How should you fill your carts? • Use your waste and recycling carts for convenient disposal and follow community guidelines to avoid service rejection notices (“Oops” tags), which will indicate why your material was not collected. • Don’t over-pack materials; they may get stuck or fall out when the carts/totes are tipped. • Keep lids closed to prevent materials from blowing and prevent unwanted rodents. • Excess materials above the cart height may lead to an “Oops” tag. • Place recyclables loose in the cart — no bags needed, except for shredded paper in a clear plastic bag, which is THE ONLY EXCEPTION Can I use a cart I brought from my old home, purchased at a hardware store, or from Modern? No. Modern will collect ONLY Village-issued carts after September 1, 2025. All other containers placed out for collection will not have their contents emptied. How can I manage home clean-outs? If you are doing a home renovation or house clean-out, please contact Modern, or your preferred hauler, to request a dumpster or make arrangements with a debris removal company. What do I do with my old containers? During the month of September 2025, you may place out your empty trash containers for collection on the scheduled bulk collection day. Please mark them with an “x” or “take me” sign. Why can I only put out bulk items once per month? Bulk items require a special truck because of the item sizes. Each resident may place up to 5 bulk items out with their regular garbage (on their normal garbage day) on Wednesday of the last full week of each month. Why was the lid bent on my cart when it arrived? During transportation and in cold weather the lids slightly warp. Keep the cart in sun for a few hours and it will mold back to its proper shape. Helpful Hints Nothing is to be put out prior to 6pm Tuesday evening. Place all garbage & recycling material within 5 feet of the curb. Brush and/or tree limbs must be neatly bundled, no longer than four (4) feet in length and no larger than four (4) inches in diameter. Christmas trees will be collected only after the Christmas season in January.
